Problems loading office

My computer crashed and wiped everything from my disc including Word, Office,
files, users and I had to load default settings. I have Windows xp media
edition. I tried to load Office 2007 onto my computer but the program would
not load without XP Service Pack 2. I tried to download this, it would not
load (it completes some of the software and then stops at the end) and the
only error message shown is "unable to read from or write to the database".
I thought
the computer needed previous packs but I cannot download XP Service Pack 1 or
any other Office software as it says there are no reconisable systems.
Please can somebody help?

I did a systems restore which deleted everything I had loaded since I had the
computer and started me off with the orginal settings. I have windows
updates which have updated the computer, but although the computer wants to
load XP Service Pack 2 everytime I start the computer, it will not finish
loading.

It sounds to me like you have a bad hardrive. You can buy new hardrives
fairly cheap from Best Buy, Newegg, Office Depot, Fry's Electronics for $49
to $89.
