Problems moving Office from one Mac to another

Our office needs to move Office from an older machine to a newer one.
Our version of Office 2004 is an upgrade, so we copied Office 98 to the
OS9 Applications folder and did an install that seemed to work well.
However, Entourage and Word will not launch. Excel and PowerPoint work
fine, which may be because we don't have use for them. The error
message from Entourage is very generic "Microsoft Entourage has
encountered a problem and needs to close."

You know, whatever the problem is, it doesn't really have anything to do
with moving from one Mac to another. The upgrade version does not borrow
any elements of code from the earlier version, it just needs a verification
to unlock the program. You actually did not really need to copy Office 98
over--you could have done the drag and drop installation of Office 2004 and
pointed the verifier at the Office 98 CD.

Anyhow, with that out of the way, you are still left with the problem that
Entourage and Word don't work. Since they both depend on the Entourage
database, I'm going to guess the problem is there. Use the diagnostic tips
#1 and #2 here:

And then see which troubleshooting steps may apply:

You put me on the right track, although the specific suggestions didn't
help. In fact, I'd already tried everything except the Terminal trick.
I'd been looking for a security problem, but instead solved the issue
by running Disk Warrior. Wouldn't have thought that would affect
Entourage and Word only.

Thanks for the feedback.
