Problems: Office 2007 B2TR

I

Iain

Hello Guys,

I have been using Office 2007 B2 for some time now, and have just upgraded
it to Office 2007 B2TR. However, I have encountered two individual problems:

1: I cannot open any documents that I created in Beta2 in B2TR. I ALWAYS get
a file not found error.

2: I have been running Office 2007 B2 with office 2003, using the stable
2003 for important stuff. But now when I swap between them, I have to go
through the Installing.... / configuring dialog boxes that take a good 5min
to go away.

Both these problems are really fundimamenta.

Thanks,

IAP

I want to edit that; I CANNOT OPEN ANY FILES IN WORD 2007 B2TR - EVEN ONES
THAT I CREATED WITH IT, CLOSED AND THEN OPENED!!!!

What should I do????

Did you read the ReadMe and other information on the download site? I
believe those explain that B2TR cannot open files created in B2. You must
save them as 2003 format files before you can open them in B2.

A known issue - files saved in the default Office 2007 format cannot be opened in the new Beta 2 TR programs. Wait for a response from Microsoft which should be coming - hopefully.

Optimally, the TR should have a caveat telling you to save any important files [1] in 97-2003 format before installing the B2TR.

[1] Important files don't belong on a beta installation - they belong on a production machine where betas don't belong.

Remove Office 2007. Reinstall Beta 2, save your files as DOC (97-2003
format) and then install B2TR again.
Sorry, this seems to be a prevalent issue with B2TR and there is some
confusion actually with which programs are affected.

Actually, email me one of the files you created in B2TR and can't open
anymore. You can get my email from my website.

Actually I have the same pb, I cannot open any documents in office 2007 b2tr,
even the documents created in.
What can I do ?

Sit tight for now. Quite a few people are experiencing the problem.
Hopefully a workaround/fix will be available soon.
Have you tried rebooting already?

And I do apologize for thinking that was explained in the readme file --
it's not. Grrrr.

I've resolved the file problems - the Norton Antivirus Plug in for Office was
causing the problems.

That still leaves the problem of running 2003 and 2007 on the same machine -
when you swap between them, you get the installing / confuiguring messages
that take about 5min to go, is there a way around this??

Thanks for your help, it's really useful.

Already run that, but to no avail. It still goes through the installing /
configuring stages for both 2007B2Tr and 2003 .

Hi Iain,

Each version of Office sets a variety of file/registry pointers for the Office suites. When you have more than one version
installed (which MS still suggests is not optimal <g>) there is often activity for the version you fired up to 'reset' its pointers
to work correctly. This is somewhat normal activity for the MS Installer that is used for Office. You may see more of this
activity if you are using add-ins that tie to the Office apps that check those pointers to be able to run properly. Generally,
unless you have your source files on a network source it shouldn't take five minutes to do the installer run.

In the Office 2007 Beta 2 Tech Refresh, if you run one version then the other, and then close both and double click on say a .doc or
..xls file in Windows explorer does the last used, or last installed version of Word and Excel start?

Which error message did you receive when you tried to open files?
If you received a File not found or file not available message, check
that section on my website on how to resolve that problem.
You can download Beta 2 from the Office Preview Site, the same site you
downloaded it originally from. In order to install B2TR again, you will
have to first install Beta 2 and then patch it to B2TR.

Are you in the official technical beta?
If you are, then you should be posting your questions in the private
beta newsgroups.
If you however just went on the preview site and downloaded it, then you
are just a beta user. You'll probably have to pay.

yes, i received microsoft technet newsletters and got a link to beta 2
through that before it was made public. but when i try and follow the
link again it just goes to ms office 2007 b2tr

P

Patrick Schmid

You are then not in the technical beta and as such, you'll have to pay
the $1.50 to redownload Beta 2. Type "Office Preview Site" into Google,
and that will get you there.

Hi David,

If you have an MSDN or Technet plus subscription then the Office 2007 Beta 2 may have been included in one of the CD/DVDs of your
subscription. If not a subscriber then as Patrick mentioned the 'fee' will likely apply to reobtaining the download if using
Start=>Searh on your computer you don't find a non-web page file when searching for
OPPLUS-
