Problems opening attachments in Outlook 2003

I am unable to open word or excel attachments direct from outlook - have to
save to disk and open from there. Outlook hangs and I get not responding
error. Only happened in last couple of days - any ideas please?

thanks but hasnt solved the problem - strangely I cant click on the
hyperlinks in emails either
