problems opening documents in word

I am not able to open documents in word. I am also having some problems
opening Word (2002) I have XP. I have to open it in safe mode which it seems
disables some functionality because when I try to open a document from my
documents or a disk, it lets me search for the document but when I click on
it, it doesn't open.

I have uninstalled works and installed it again. This didn't work.
I have tried to change the normal.dot template. This didn't work.
I don't have any prgorammes or add-ins to disenable.
I have tried to open word directly from an email attachemtn or from a disk
but this doesn't work either.

Please help!

If it starts in Safe Mode and you are certain that there are no add-ins, it
may be a corrupt or out of date printer driver. Make sure that the you have
the latest driver for your printer and then delete and reinstall the
printer.

Also, from Start, Run type in

winword /r

and press enter which will reregister Word in Windows. Finally, if you are
using Norton ANti Virus, make sure that you disable the Office plug-in in
NAV.

I have the same problem but for only one of 2 users on my computer. If you
find out what the problem is let me know. I think it has to do with the
office update service pack 3 which cannot be removed. I've tried everything
short of reformating my disk. Still waiting for answers. Good Luck!
