problems opening excel 2000 document with macros in excel 2003

When I open an excel 2000 file with macros, in excel 2003, I receive an error saying 'error accessing file...'. Then I am allowed to open it, however, it gives me an error report that says visual basic project was dropped. I lose all of my macros. What can I do, other than downgrading to excel 2000 again?

What level of macro security do you have under
Tools>Options...>Security>Macro security...?

Medium should suffice for most users
