What version of Mac OS - have you switched to Leopard?

This is an error generated by the OS, not by Excel. I've seen several
reports on the Apple Discussions but there doesn't yet seem to be a specific
cause/effect/cure established as yet.

Make sure Office is fully updated & update your printer driver as well -
reinstall the driver if there isn't an update available - and run Disk
Utility / Repair Disk permissions.

Let us know how you make out 'cause I have a feeling we may be seeing more
of this type of problem.

I have Leopard installed. I dont know how to update Office other than
the normal software updates that my computer conducts automatically.
I also do not know how to update my printer drivers. I did run the
Repair Disk permissions. Excel still does not work. What else can I
do to resolve this? Would contacting Microsoft help?

If you haven't already done so the latest update to OS X can be downloaded
from here:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1051update.html

(although there is a later Security Update, but I wouldn't worry about that
one just yet). Repair permissions again after applying the update.

Office updates are avalable from: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/ but if
you've been using AutoUpdate you should be OK there. However, if you
switched to Leopard *after* updating Office to 11.3.9 it might be worth
applying the 11.3.9 update again.

Go to the manufacturer's web site for information on an updated driver for
your printer.

Wiliam,

I had the same problem on my Mac running OSX 10.4.11 (Tiger). It sound
like an MS OFFICE PROBLEM that I had. same error message It was
happening in Word and Excel.

First, try this:

In the Finder, select a Word or Excel document, then press Command
(Apple) + i to bring up the Info window. Expand the Open with section of
that window and select the appropriate application from the dropdown
list. If Word or Excel are not visible, choose Other and navigate to the
application. After selecting the correct application, click on Change
All, then check if the application now launches correctly.

If that doesn't do it, try this (this is what cleared up my problem)

The Test Drive is known to cause problems, and if your problem does not
go away, it might be a good idea to remove Office and the Test Drive and
to reinstall Office afterwards.

To remove Office properly, go to Applications/Microsoft Office
2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office.

Drag the "REMOVE OFFICE" application to your desktop. Run it from there,
then delete the ALL Microsoft Office 2004 versions, including Test
Drive, in your Applications folder and proceed with the reinstall.

Good luck.
