I recently installed Office 2000 on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server
(Created the transform file via custom installation wizard in the
office 2000 resource kit) and am experiencing some problems with some
users when opening any office documents.
If I click on a shortcut for a Word or Excel document, and Word or
Excel are not already open, the application will open but the document
will not. If I click on the shortcut again, or any other document,
they will now open. Essentially, Word or Excel need to be open before
I can open a document. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling,
tried using the /r repair switch, but nothing seems to fix the
problem. For what it's worth, I see the Preparing to Install dialogue
box every time before attempting to open a document. It flashes by
rather quickly, then opens me up to a blank Word or Excel screen.
I've checked to make sure there are no group policy affecting the
server by moving it into an OU that has no policy's assigned to it,
given the user Administrator rights, and tried re-creating the user
profile as well as double checking the transform file. I see nothing
indicative of a problem.
Oddly enough, myself (domain administrator) and another user (an
administrator) have no problems at all, however, even matching rights
with this one administrative user to the other does not allow them to
open the documents without first having Word or Excel open.
Upgrading to Office 2003 or 2007 is not an option at this point (2007
won't even work for us as we are using Exchange 5.5).
Suggestions? Hints? I can't fully deploy this server until I can get
this problem fixed.
Thanks-
Brian
