Problems opening Personal Folders (.pst folders)

I have work with the IT department for my company and we just upgraded to
Office 2007 from Office 2003. Some of our users are having problems opening
Personal Folders in Outlook. Sometimes they open fine, sometimes they won't
open at all. Anyone have any suggestions?

How are they opening the PST files? Are there any errors at all?

There are no errors, the user just clicks on the folder and it simply does
not open.

 

[K. Orland]

To clarify, the PST as a personal folder has already been added to the
user's Outlook profile?

 

[Michelle]

Yes. The folders were transferred from Outlook 2003 when they upgraded to
2007. So they already have the personal folders. But with the outlook 2007
sometimes the folder will open and sometimes it will not open and it just
wont do anything. The users have opened them before in 2007 though so its not
a problem with transferring from 2003.

How were they transferred? Perhaps some are marked read only?

They really werent actually transferred as much as they were updated. These
users had Outlook 2003 and had their Personal folders within Outlook 2003.
Then their outlook was updated to Outlook 2007. So that is how the folders
were updated. I don't think they are read only because the folders cannot be
opened at all. So even if they were read only you would be able to open them,
you just wouldnt be able to edit them.

As a test with one person, recreate their Outlook profile and re-add the PST
to the profile in the mail applet (Control Panel). See if that makes a
difference.
