Problems printing to pdf using Adobe Distiller

B

On Win2000 using MS Project 2002, when I attempt to print to the Acrobat Distille
(I have Adobe 5.0), then MS Project asks me where to save the new pdf file. Afte
designating a folder and filename, I get an error message from MS Project whil
it is apparently trying to "print" the file into ...\Desktop\*.pdf (regardless of wha
folder I try to send it to). Then MS Project hangs and I have to bail out of the
program.

Any ideas

Thanks

Do you have permissions to write to this folder? Print to a "desktop"
folder is not normal. Check the Distiller configuration to ensure that
it's setup right, and that you have permissions to write to those folders.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I was not trying to print to the desktop folder. Instead I had instructed
it to save the pdf file in a folder for that I have been using for that
project. However, the error always refers to problems printing t
....\desktop\*.pd

I checked the properties of the distiller printer and I see that the port specifie
for it is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\*.pdf

That explains where that path is coming from

What should the port for the distiller be

I don't know that it matters (as long as you have appropriate
permissions). You can make the file anywhere you want (again, as long
as permissions are ok).

Why don't you change that setting to something else that you know you
have write privileges to. I use c:\temp and then after created I move
them to where they should go (which always some other particular but
changing) file folder.

Another way to avoid the problem is to use the Adobe PDF Maker (another
way which avoids Distiller).

Also, check out www.adobe.com for support FAQ's. This is probably a
problem already discussed there.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
