problems printing

I am having problems printing my powerpoint slides as handouts (6 to a
page) as this menu does not even pop up to give me that option. The
only print menu that pops up is the general one for all documents, not
specific to powerpoint. Can anyone help me? I hate to always have to
find another computer to print these out--it is such a hassle. Thanks!

When you choose Print, you should be presented with a dialogue box. At the
top of the dialogue box are three pull-down menus: Printer, Presets, and an
unlabeled one that probably has "Copies & Pages" selected. In the unlabeled
one, click and choose Microsoft PowerPoint (on mine, it is second from the
bottom of the list). Then you should get the PowerPoint options, which
include "Print What" which can be changd to Handouts.

I am having the same problem printing handouts. When I print, I do not receive the "Print What" dialog box. Also, I do not have the third option displayed in my print dialog box an unlabeled one that probably has "Copies & Pages".

I have spent the last two hours trying to print a Mac MS PowerPoint presentation in the notes option. I have looked and tried everything I can. David Marcovitz gives great information, but my options do not match his
I did finally realize that I had to ignore print options except for the one on the top PowerPoint menu. All went well (because I temporarily am using only one printer) until the second label (Presets), which has a number of options, including adding more.

At first, I left it Standard and attempted to find PowerPoint in the third option. Not only did I not find PP as an option, the rest of them made no sense for printing note pages (Cover page, Layout, Color Matching, etc.). So I tried to change Presets to PowerPoint by adding it. No cigar. Then I added Note Pages to Presets, but again all I get if I try to print from the regular file is full page, color sheets, no matter what my wishes may be.

When I changed the file to a PDF, with black & white selected, the preview was perfect! However, now I get only untouched, clean white pages, one at a time.

Any ideas? The printer is an HP Photosmart C4480 and the software is Microsoft Mac Office 2008.

May many blessings come to you if you solve this problem! (Sorry; it's late.)

Hi Ginny -

The first step is visit the HP site & see if there is a driver update for
your printer. Once the driver is updated - or if no update is available -
run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions & restart your Mac.

If that doesn't resolve it, post a *New* message including the exact version
of OS X, exact version of Office, and a concise but complete description of
what you are attempting to do & what does/does not happen.

David's reply was to a post from October of last year & pertained to a
totally different version of PowerPoint and a completely different version
of OS X. Things have changed since then. Trying to follow those suggestions
is a big part of what's confusing you, but that's what happens when you post
as a reply to something that "sounds like" a similar issue:)

There should be no need to get involved with the Presets list based on what
you indicated you want to do. Presets only come into play if you need to
make a variety of changes to the default settings & want to be able to reuse
those same settings on a repetitive basis.

The other settings in the Copies & Pages list need only be changed under
specific circumstances & would be included in a saved Preset if desired.

To simply print the Notes Pages you should only have to:

1- Got to File> Print
2- Select your printer from the top list (if necessary)
3- Choose "Notes" from the Print What: list (lower right)
4- Change any other settings for # Copies, etc.
5- Click [Print]

Keep in mind that PowerPoint (or any other program) doesn't do any of the
printing. The content in the Print dialog is provided by the operating
system in conjunction with the printer driver - all the program does is
provide the information to be printed.
