Problems re-installing office 2003 on win 2000 (sp4) machine

Hi ng,

I had already problems removing office 2003, probably because of the
fact the original installer-files were partly removed/damaged. Well, one
solves this by running windows installation clean-up msicuu2.exe
according to tips in Microsoft articles. After that one removes all
files in the many office dirs and after running a few registry cleaners
all traces will be gone.

And then the reinstall can start! Easy, but then it really goes wrong.
The installation breaks before it really starts. The errorlog mentions:

Using Local Cache Drive of already installed product: D:\.
Error 0x80070002
Failed to create download for local caching.
Error 0x80070002
Failed to determine local cache information from Office Source Engine.
Couldn't perform local caching.

Besides, i can't remove 1 file - it's msohev.dll in the \program
files\microsoft office\office11 directory.

A profound search on usenet / www has given me some tips, but non of
them was sufficient yet. But it's clear that the new installation
recognizes the former installation, but how and where? 2nd, the often
mentioned listool.exe doesnt work; it gives the same "Error 0x80070002".

My question is therefore easy: what should I run or take away manually
in addition, so all the traces of the former office 2k3 install are
really gone?

thx
Henk Jol

As you can see in the header: yes.
Because it is a complex setup related issue I crossed the message to the
relevant os ng as well.
