Problems Renaming a folder in Frontpage.

L

Lee Palmer

We have a user who has been using Frontpage to create and edit web pages on
our web server. In the last few days he has been trying to change folder
names but it sits thinking for 45 seconds and then gives him an error message
- Server error: Cannot rename "Test".
I have checked his permissions on the server and he has full control. If he
deletes 2 or 3 files from this folder then it will allow him to rename it. If
he then tries to copy a file back and then rename the folder, it does not
allow him.
It allows him to edit folders on his personal network drive but not using
the connection to the web server we set up for him.
Would appreciate any information or answers as I am not a big user of
Frontpage, many thanks.

Is this user renaming the folder from within frontpage? Or in Windows
explorer? If he's doing it in Frontpage, it won't work since effectively
the folder is 'in use' i.e. he's working on an open web in that folder which
is probably why permission is denied.

He should rename the folder from Windows Explorer/my computer/my documents
view.

How is the user accessing the web on the server via http or a drive letter/UNC?

No. It should be renamed using FrontPage, or every link to and from any content in the
folder will be broken.
