Problems running 2003 macros under 2007 macro security

I have a document created in Word 2000 and updated in 2003 with macros
set to run on document open. I have just been upgraded to Word 2007.
When I first opened the doc, it crashed. I cleaned up all the
processes, cleaned up the left-over ~$ormal and such templates, and
rebooted.

When I open the doc now with macro security set to "Disable all macros
with warning", the message bar pops up, I click Enable, and it all
crashes again. "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and will
shut down." I do not select "Recover".

I reset to "Enable all macros", and the doc opened and all code ran
fine. I reset to "Disable with warning", and it crashes. I reset to
enable, and it still crashes!

The worst part seems to be that if i set the Trust to "Dsable with
Warning" and I select "Protect me", when the doc did open, all the
code was gone! I used to be able to open with macros disabled to keep
things from running, and at leat open the VBE and work with the code.

How do I work with macros in 2007?

The document probably should be a template.

A couple of things to try.

Save it in the User Template folder which is a "Trusted" location and open
it from there.

Hold down the Shift key while you open it to prevent the auto macros from
running.

I wound up creating a new doc in 2007, importing all my code and
forms, and saving it as a docm. Now it runs.

Thanks for the boost, Doug.
