I believe this problem started about 2 - 3 weeks ago. We are using Office
2003 SP2, Windows XP SP2. Several of our users are experiencing this problem
in both Excel and Word. They are merrily working along and repeatedly saving
their documents to their network share. Then after several saves, they
suddenly receive a message indicating that the file is read-only, and they're
forced to save it with a new file name. There are also a few other
variations to this problem: sometimes they receive the message, "Word cannot
complete the save due to a file permission error." or "Your changes could
not be saved to [filename] but were saved to a temporary document named
[7FC9100]. I installed Office 2003 SP3 on a few of the workstations that
were experiencing this problem, but it did not resolve the issue. This
problem only occurs when saving to a network share. They are able to save to
their local drives (but we don't want them to!). Nothing has changed with
the users' file permissions. We have rebooted our fileserver and it has
plenty of hard disk space. We are running Windows 2003 V5.2, R2, SP2 on the
fileserver. I'd appreciate any help you can provide!
