Problems to open Access database under Active Directory

S

SMoeller

We switched all our workstations to Active Directory. Now, even with a very
simple (not linked/splitted) database, this problem occurs:
If a database is opened by a user, a second user is not able to open the
same database by clicking it. The second user can only open the database by
starting Access and using Open/File to open the datatbase.
Does anyone can help with this?

Usually if only one user can open the file, it means that permissions to the
directory where the mdb file are limited.

If ms-access cannot delete or create temp working files (the .ldb locking
file for example) in that directly, then users are either not permitted to
open it, or they are opened in read only.

So, make sure all users have full permissions to that directory. And, when I
say full permission, we are talking about file create rights. File delete
rights..and of course full read + write.

Sounds like the admin of the system simply assumed that users need
read/write ability to this directory, and that is a WRONG assuming. Users
also need full rights, and that includes create rights..and delete
rights....

Also, using active dircoty often points out that you are using a WAN as
opposed to LAN. If so, you need to read the following:
