Problems typing any info into a cell

Whenever I try to type any information into a cell (or into the formula bar), I type a few of the letters and then a bold outline appears around the cell and the remaining letters are entered as if I was typing new information into that cell. For example, if I try to type the word "information," it would allow me to type in "info" and then as I complete the typing, the resulting entry would read "mation."
I am an investment analyst and use Excel more that almost any other application. This is driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have autocorrect entries that expand your text? They shouldn't
activate until you type a space or punctuation mark.

Do you have any haxies running (like TypeExpander or TypeIt4Me)?

I'm not sure what you mean by "as I complete the typing"...

Problem solved. I restarted in Safe Mode and Excel worked the way it was supposed to. I then opened System Prefs -> Accounts -> Login Items and there were several things that had been installed by their respective application installers I suspected had to be causing the conflict....one recent installation of a bookmark syncnonization app ended up being the culprit. Deleted it from the Login Items and restarted. Excel now works fine.
