Problems w/Outlook 2003 & Win Installer

R

Ron Greeves

Office 2003 final on WinXP Pro...

Several actions in Outlook, including opening certain
types of attachments and copying e-mail addresses between
the CC: and To: fields of a message, cause the Windows
Installer to be invoked. Eventually, a "can't find patch"
error appears. officeupdate can't scan my machine and
suggests an issue regarding updating Windows Installer
from 1.0 to 1.1 but offers no resolution info.

Everything was installed w/admin priveleges.

Both Windows and Office are patched and totally up-to-
date.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

If you check the app event log, there should be a msi installer message that
tells you what the installer is looking for. It will probably have an app
event id of 1004. Hopefully, that will shed a little light on your Outlook
error.

You probably already have Installer 2.0. You can tell by going to Start/Run
and typing msiexec ?. This will give you an error, along with the installer
version.

I hope that helps!
