Problems with bullets

Hi. I have been having a problem with the bullets on Microsoft word. I used
to be able to set the bullet, and when pressing tabs get a different type of
bullet slightly further indented on the page, forming a sort of list.
However, for the last few days, that function has not worked. Now, when I
press tab, the bullet does not move. I don't know what I did to cause this to
happen, and I can't figure out how to change it back.

What version of Word? The setting is the same for all Word versions but in
three different places depending on version.
