problems with contacts

I've screwed up my contacts. OE 2003 with sp1 and all updates. single
user not on exchange.

I have set up my contacts to be "contacts", then "A", "B", "C" etc
under contacts. Contacts has no entries.

1. When I switch to contacts, I get contacts. Which is the lowest
folder, not "A", which is the one I want to open.

2. When in mail, I click on the to line, I get "X", a different folder
then any in in the contact view, when I click on "show names from
the:" entry I get "outlook address book" then indented "X", "B", "C",
"Y", "Z", Contacts, and then un-dented "personal address book". X, Y
and Z shouldn't be there.

I can't add any items to "X", which I don't want anyway.

to recap, what I want is "A", "B", "C" etc. with "A" coming up as the
default in both mail and contacts.

Try to clarify your post so that it is understandable. You know what you're
saying, but we don't. For someone not seeing what you're seeing, it is
impossible to follow your descriptions.
Also, what do you mean by OE 2003?

Outlook 2003, with SP1 and all updates.

Problem 1:
When I open the contacts tab of Outlook, I see under the "My Contacts"
area, in order, "010-aaa", "015-bbb", "020-ccc", "Contacts".
They all seem to be at the same level. Contacts does not have any
entries. I want it to open with "010-aaa".

we will leave problem 2 alone till we solve problem 1.

Sorry. I must just be speaking a different language. I'll have to let
someone else try to translate what you're saying. I sure can't.
