Problems with dual monitor setup

Can anyone help me with a dual monitor problem I am having.
I have just replaced an older Win 98 computer which had 2 video cards
running a monitor and a video proj and which ran PP 2000 fine on dual
monitors.
The new computer runs win2000 and has on board video and I installed an
extra video card for the projector.
The system supports dual monitors and runs properly with the display
spaning over both monitor and proj screen but when I load PP 2000 and set
it for dual monitor and run slide show it hangs almost imediately or when
I move to the 2nd or 3rd slide.

I Have:
-reloaded PP 2000 -no good
-Set it up on another identical Win 2000 computer -no good
-Loaded PP XP and it works ok but I don't want to use PP XP.
-Loaded any patches for PP 2000 I could find - no good.
-Made up a new small PP slide show and it seems to run ok but not on the
normal larger PP files. (may be file size related)

Is there some incompatability between Win 2000 and PP 2000 that causes
dual monitor problems?
Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
