Problems with Excel and PowerPoint

My colleague has problems with her Excel "Function" key. Everytime she
clicked on "Insert Function", her excel will automatically detect an error
and close down.

Thinking she needs to reinstall her Office, she did just that recently and
now she's also experiencing problems with her Powerpoint.

Everytime she wants to attach an attachment with extension ".cgm" into her
presentation, she encounters this error:

"Ms Power Point cannot import this graphic. This feature is not currently
installed. Wold you like to install it now?"

She's now afraid to reinstall anything else cos she does not want to affect
her other Office Applications.

Any fix??

CGM is not a very common graphics format, although Office 2003 does support
it. (See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;895317 --
one of the issues this hotfix fixes is CGM graphics that don't show up after
being inserted into Office 2003 files.)

I'd suggest that your colleague convert the CGM files to something else --
EMF is probably the best choice if she needs to maintain the "vectorness" of
the graphic file. Otherwise probably PNG will be the best bet.

I don't know why this issue would happen after a reinstall -- unless the
reinstall wiped out the CGM filter or something. The "Would you like to
install it now?" thing is probably prompting her so it can install the CGM
filter. I'd go for it and see what happens. (But I'd still convert the CGMs
to something else.)

As for the Excel error, maybe try asking about that in one of the Excel
newsgroups. You'll want to post the exact wording of the error message and
also mention what version of Office and Windows your colleague is working
on.

You might also want to have her run a Detect and Repair from the Help menu.
