Problems with Excel data file

R

Richard

I have had a mail merge set up for a couple of months now.
The data source is an excel file. When I now try to use
the word file, it comes up with a message saying that it
can not find the data source, and offers me the options of
either finding a data source, or deleting the links.

So I go looking for the data source, and select it.
However, Word looks at the file, and is treating it like
an access database file, and asks for the passwords to get
into it.

No matter what I do, I cannot get it to recognise the
excel file. I have also replaced the excel file with an
old backup copy that I know worked at that time.

Does any one have any ideas?

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

Let's start with which version of Word we're dealing with?

And do you happen to know which connection method you're
using to access the Excel data?

If you set up a merge in a new document to the Excel file, do
you still see the problem?

How about if you copy paste a few cells from the Excel sheet
into a new workbook, then link that with the main merge
document?
