Problems with footnotes and section breaks

I have an urgent problem about footnotes. I am finishing a thesis in Word
with multiple chapters - each separated by a hard section break. I want
footnotes to restart numbering within each chapter - this is fine. The
problem is that I have a chapter that requires a landscape page in the middle
of it and therefore needs additional section breaks within the chapter. The
footnotes within the chapter that follow the landscape page revert to the
numbering from the previous chapter - I am tearing my hair out. Can someone
please tell me if there is a solution or is it a Word glitch? Thanks.

Unfortunately, you can't restart note numbering by section if you have more
than one section in a chapter. There is just no way to make Word do what
it's supposed to do in this case; it will group the notes at the end of the
chapter (if you suppress them for the internal sections), but it won't
number them properly. That's one of the major defects of note numbering
we've been hammering the dev team on for several versions now.

Thank you Suzanne - at least I can now try to fix it manually and stop
searching for the holy grail! It is a real problem with Word. Appreciate
your fast response.

You could use Custom Note Numbering for each of the notes after the
landscape page. (But you'll have to remember to change each one
individually in case you add or delete any.)
