Problems with Install of Outlook 2002

I've installed office XP (2002?) and I've got two problems with Outlook.

Problem #1, I don't get the File, Edit, View, etc options when I've
maximized the window at first. If I make it smaller, then maximize it, it
will show up.

Problem #2, when I click on new, Word pops up. Don't want to use Word and
though I had disabled this, however it just hangs and never really am able to
send a message.

I've tried to uninstall, then reinstalled, but this didn't work.

Any suggestions/help/idea?
