Problems with Internet Explorer on 1 pc....

Heidi

We are networked thru Win 2000 server in our office but on one computer I am
having problems with the internet explorer... First it will not allow me to
access Windows Update, says that my "current security settings prohibit
ActiveX from running...." but everything with activex in the security
settings is set to either enable or prompt. I even added windows update to
the trusted zone. Still no luck.

Also, When certain sites (it just happened yesterday w/a specific site, so I
don't know if it's more than just this...), it will not load the page.
Example: user was trying to go to Orbitz.com, he can get on the initial site
fine but if he tries to go to the "register now" link or the "sign in" link
it brings up "Page cannot be displayed". it's not the website because 2 other
pc's in this area of the office can pull it up fine.

It's not his permissions because I've logged in as administrator in both
cases and it doesn't work for me either. I don't know if the problems are
related or not, if there is some sort of corruption or whatever.... I tried
to do an uninstall/reinstall and came up w/more problems: I downloaded an
install file from microsoft for IE 6, sp1, then went to uninstall, but the
iexplorer did not display in the add remove programs list, just in the
add/remove components. I went thru that and it got rid of it but when I went
to run the install file it started to apply and said that there was a newer
version already installed and setup could not run. I tried adding the
components again and then taking them off and going thru the same process
with no luck.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I am running out of options...

Thanks,
Heidi
