We implemented a server that works with Outlook's "Internet Free/Busy"
functionality. This has been working great with Outlook 2003. On testing with
Outlook 2007 (SP1 on XP SP2), though, we've encountered many problems.
Particularly hangs. Are there any known issues with this?
I'll include some steps that reproduce the hang in our environment:
Test 1
1. Select Calendar view.
2. Create an event.
3. Add invitee(s).
4. Go to Scheduling view.
5. Select "Refresh Free/Busy" from the Options dropdown.
This will occasionally cause Outlook to hang. If I repeat the last step
multiple times the hang will always eventually occur.
Test 2
Setup: Create a Group Schedule for some users.
1. Select Calendar view.
2. Select "View Groups Schedules..." from the Actions menu.
3. Open a group schedule.
4. Select "Refresh Free/Busy" from the Options dropdown.
This will frequently cause Outlook to hang. Like the first test it may
take several tries of the last step but typically this happens on the first
try.
Outlook 2003 never has these problems. If I monitor network traffic I
see that our server is responding the same way every time the refresh occurs.
IOW, there is no correlation between the content of the resonse and whether
OL hangs.
Maybe it's a latency issue and OL2007 is bad at handling slower responses to
free/busy queries?
