Problems with Italics in Word 2004 for Mac

Help! I am working on a 40+ page document in Word 2004 for Mac, version
11.1.

My document is in Times New Roman, 12 point font.

Suddenly, seemingly for no reason, all the headings and sections that
were in italics seemed to get compressed. They look like black
blotches-- all the letters seem to be on top of one another. Everything
is still there, because when I change it to plain text, it looks fine.
And all the other text, that's not in italics, is unaffected.

Was it something I did?

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks,

I'm running Mac OS X, version 10.3.8.

And yes, it does happen in all views, and in other documents.

Thanks!

27,

A few questions to clarify things further for Daiya and others:

Are *all* instances of italicizing in the document compressed?

Do the instances of italicizing comprise whole paragraphs -- i.e. all the
words in the paragraph are italicized? If so, please describe the
style/formatting of the underlying paragraph.

Alternatively, has the italicizing been applied manually (i.e., select the
word(s), click on "I" button on the toolbar or key Command-i) or by styles
(i.e., as an integral part of a heading)? What happens when you drag over
an example of the discrepant formatting and key Control-spacebar?

Hi Gang,

Just a couple more thoughts to muddy the waters:), but perhaps Word is not
at fault.

What happens if you change the font of the affected italicized text to
something other than TNR?

TNR is a family, so if the text behaves in another italicized font you could
have a corrupted TNR Italic file or more than one version of the font
installed.

If the text still misbehaves the same even when a different italic font is
applied, could it possibly be a video-related problem?
