Used the typical install on a new retail copy of Office 2007 Small
Business Edition and when done the normal pictures in Outlook Today
and the customization screen from Outlook Today are missing and
replaced by red X 's. See the following screen shots:

I tried uninstalling IE7 based on another post I read, but that didn't
work. I also tried uninstalling Office 2007 and its many components,
then re-installing from scratch but that didn't fix the problem either.

I was able to find the anwser myself via Googling the question. It led
me to the following article:
http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=638380

Which in turn led me to the following Microsoft article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305970

The gist of being:
"Make sure that you reference the current Outlook Today page: 1. If
the Folder List is not available, click the View menu, and then click
Folder List.
2. Right-click the Outlook Today folder, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Home Page tab.
4. Type the following in the Address box:
res://C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\1033\outlwvw.dll/
outlook.htm
5. Click OK."

I changed the path to that of the Office 2007 or "Office12" instead of
"Office10" and it worked like a charm.
