Another IT Bod
We have experiencing the following problem with increasing frequency over the
last 3 weeks.
The problem is that Outlook freezes or hangs. This usually happens if the
user uses another application for 5-10 minutes and then returns to Outlook.
It also happens if the screensaver has come on and the user returns to the PC
and wakes it up.
More recently it has been affecting some users whilst they are drafting
e-mail and then send their messages (and then Outlook hangs).
The workaround is to shut the hanging application down by using the top
right X, or right mouse clicking the Outlook button in the taskbar.
Occasionally this doesn't work and Task Manager has to be used to shut the
non-responding application down.
On restart, Outlook attempts to report the problem to Microsoft. I don't
have the error report details but will post the next time it happens.
We don't know if the problem is Exchange-based or Outlook-based and seems to
affect about 75-80% of users.
We are using Outlook XP SP3 clients with Exchange 2000 SP3 enterprise edition.
Any ideas? Have there been any patches to Exchange or Outlook in the last
month or so that might have caused this?
