Problems with Paste Link

T

Tim Wallen

I have a Word document created under Windows 98 that contains Excel
spreadsheets that have been paste linked into the document. After upgrading
to Windows XP, when attempting to open the document, Word would appear that
it was opening the document but I would eventually receive a message that it
was not responding. We installed an update patch. Now we can open the
document, but when I attempt to edit the links or try to click on the
imbedded Excel sheet in order to delete it, I'm experiencing the same problem
with the system telling me that Word is not responding.

I've created a new document and imbedded an Excel sheet and everything is
behaving normally. This leads me to believe it must be some conflict between
Windows 98 and Windows XP. Any suggestions for correcting the problem is
welcome.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?VGltIFdhbGxlbg==?=,

It's certainly not a conflict between the versions of Windows. Most likely some
damage in the internal document structures...

If you press Alt+F9 in that document, the field codes should appear in place of
their results. Does this affect the linked sheets at all? (I'm trying to find
out if these are formatted graphically in-line with the text, or with text-flow
formatting.)

If there is no effect (or if Word stops responding again), you can try selecting
the paragraphs AROUND the graphic, copy, then go to another document and use
Insert/Paste Special and paste as plain text.

For any further suggestions, I need to know which version of WORD this is,
so that I have an idea what capabilities are available to you.
