Problems with Recorded Broadcast Presentations in PPT 2002

Murray Gardner

I have successfully recorded a Broadcast Presentation, but the
playback has major problems. The audio and video seem to work fine,
but the transitions of the slides are all wrong. It appears that the
slides refresh on a frequent basis (you can see the page re-loading in
the browser), so that the bullet points do not come on at the
appropriate time. For the most part the bullet points dont come on at
all unless you click the left mouse button during playback and this
doesn't seem right.

I'm not sure if this is related, but PPT does not seem to be able to
find my microphone which is integral with the USB Logitec 4000 webcam
I'm using. Despite this it does record the audio fine. The problem
with playback is evident whether I select 'audio' only or 'video and
audio'.

Any help very much appreciated as this is a very important
presentation and needs to be done this weekend!

Murray, I have the USB Logitech 4000 Pro webcam. It works pefectly
with PPT. Which version of PPT do you have? And what do you mean
when you say 'PPT does not seem to be able to find my microphone'?
If you save your presentation as a Web Page, and then look in the
Folder that is created alongside the web page itself, you should find
the embedded sound files present in .wav format. If you right-click
on such a file and look at its properties, which utility is set up
(under the general tab) to play the file, and what are the entries
under the advanced tab?

I take it as read that your webcam on its own will record video and
audio without any problems.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Murray,

I suspect that you might be right about the sound card being the culprit
since it's the *.ASF file created by the Windows Media Encoder whicih
contains the necessary instructions (script) which control the advancement
of slides and animations during the playback of a recorded broadcast.

You should see whether you audio/video capture device on your system is
compatible with the Windows Media Encoder 4.x (the version that PowerPoint
uses). For the list of hardware verified to be compatible, check out:
