Problems with repairing ACCESS 97 Db

I'm having problems with repairing ACCESS 97 DB - it
happend couple of times last week that I got the message
:"Data Base .... can't be repaired or it is'nt a Microsoft
ACCESS Data Base file". Data base is secured with
password,used in multiuser environment (~ 5 users at the
time) and it has only data tables I link to from other DB's
(ACCESS 97 & ACCESS 2000). Is there any way to retrieve
data or repair?
Or any action I can take to prevent this problem? Help
would be greatly appreciated - Zofia
