Problems with setting up web search component

Oners

Hello

I have set up a site on my local machine with the published files going to
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\intranet

I have uploaded my files and I now want to use the web search component but
I am gettting the following error:

FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to this site's webmaster.
Webmaster: please see the server's application event log for more details.

From searching around, I am seeing that people are making reference to
server index and server catalog. Is this something I need to do to make the
feature work? If so, could anyone guide me?

Thanks

1st of all, did you http publish your site to a host server with the FP
server extensions installed?

Hi Tom

I just used the upload features within the FP2003 interface. I have had a
look around and can't seem to see anywhere if I am using http or ftp to
publish. Do you know how I would find this out?

As for the FPSE, I installed 2002 extensions earlier today. The version
that's dispayed in my site settings is 6.0.2.5516

Thanks

What is the path/URL that you enter when publishing your site to the remote server?

Are the FP server extensions installed on the host server? If so, were they
installed before you uploaded your web to the host server?

If you used ftp, the address would have been something like:
ftp://ftp.mywebsite.com
If you used http: http://www.mywebsite.com

You must http publish (not ftp) to a remote web when using web components
such as the search components.

As far as I know they are. How could I check to make sure they are installed?

I am connecting locally to my site so the url is http://localhost/schc so I
guess I am using http to publish.

Does this help?

You are working with the FPSE, however since this is on your local machine, you don't need to
publish it to the local machine, as you should be working on your site directly from within FP at
http://localhost via FP's File Menu | Open Site command, then once the root web is open double click
to open the subsite, schc.

Thanks Thomas. I have taken your advice and I am now working directly within
the folder on my local web server but this is still not solving my problem.
I am sure this is something very simple but I'm just not getting to the
bottom of it.

Using Index server may not be available under Windows XP IIS, may require the Windows 2000 or 2003
Server. Suggest you post to the Windows Index Server newsgroup.

Make sure that you are always opening the site via http://localhost and not via
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\intranet from here on, so that you are not bypassing the FP extensions.
