I'm using WinXP with SP2. I just checked Office Update and installed SP3 for
Office. Installation seemed to go all right, but after rebooting, I had no
Internet access from my cable modem. (I did have it on another computer
without SP3 connected to the same router. However, that computer keeps
shutting off.). I also kept getting error messages in MS Word that "this
document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links
from other documents to this document." I got this message on a blank
screen. I restored my computer to the way it was earlier in the evening, but
nothing improved. I called the cable company and the router company and
those were working all right. Finally for some reason I don't understand,
Internet access came back. However, the error messages continue. When I open
a Word file, I get the same messages. I click OK and get another message
with the path and the particular filename. The Linksys person said that
although the adapters appear, they're not showing up on the Network
connections screen. I don't know if they did before--I don't think I've
accessed that since getting this computer. I'd like to uninstall SP3 if it's
still there after the restore, but I don't know how to find it. It's not in
the Add/Remove window of the Control panel. Any idea what's happening here?
