Problems with Spotlight and Entourage

S

Steve Levin

Hi,

I'm currently having problems with Spotlight and Entourage, it always
used to work like a dream and I have come to rely on it so much but
now alas it has stopped working.

Now, when I search for items in spotlight, it shows emails which do
indeed match my search criteria but they are just shown as
xxxx.vRgeMessage where the xxxx is a number.

Looking on the newsgroup I have found a previous discussion on this
at:
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...d5a5ea/6110dae210365c82?q=vRgeMessage&lnk=nl&

So I tried to look at the metadata for one of the files in the cache
folder where all of the files that Spotlight indexes and it returned
no information which would appear to be relevant for an email... So, I
then used the terminal command to force spotlight to index the file
and it returned a load of text but by the end of it, the info looked
promising showing some data from the email. I then looked at the
metadata again but still no luck!

Anyone have any ideas...?

Yours hopingly...

Regards

Steve Levin.

**UPDATE**

I've now fixed this to a point...

After digging around I decided to use Onyx and I reset the Spotlight
index forcing my disk to be re-indexed. This has restored the subjects
and dates to the search results and it appears all of the metadata is
intact...

I also rebuilt my database file while the re-index was going on as a
way to make sure everything was OK with that side of things..

However, I now have a new problem...

Now when I do a spotlight search it gives results correctly but when I
try to open one it says 'Entourage cannot open this item' 'To view the
item, switch to the .-Steve Levin identity'

I only have one identity and that it the 'Steve Levin' one so I'm
confused about this...

Any ideas how this can be fixed... Looks like some kind of permissions
thing but I'm no expert!

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

This is probably where the problem started. When Entourage rebuilds it
duplicates the Identity as a backup. Spotlight is probably pointing back to
the original.

See the Sync Services FAQs. You might need to delete your cache files and
start over.
