In entering hours against tasks in PWA using the per week method, 2 issues
have been noted.
1) When you select 'Progress' you get a view that indicates weeks. In this
view, the user can scroll betyween weeks to enter effort. Problem is that
the week goes from Monday - Monday not Monday - Sunday. So you get a week
calendar that shows 3/24-3/31 3/31-4/7. This is confusing to the person
putting time in if their work was on 3/31. Is it the first week or the
second week? The weeks should be indicated as 3/24 - 3/30 3/31-4/6 if the
work week starts on Monday.
2) In entering time though I see a bigger problem. If the person enters
time in the week and the 'Start Date' is not Monday, MS Project allocates the
entered time across 5 work days and such indicates work completed or progress
in the next week. example: I enter 8 hrs work in the week 3/24-3/31 and
then enter an 'Actual Start' date as 3/25 (this is a Tuesday). If I do a
re-calculate I see 6.4 hrs work in the 3/24-3/31 week and 1.6hrs work in the
3/31-4/7 week. This is totally incorrect. MSP is allocating the effort
across 5 consecutive days and not the days in the week remaining as I have
repeated this for a 'Start Date' of 3/3/28 which is a Friday and get 1.6 hrs
in week 3/24-3/31 and 6.4 hrs in the next week. This is a serious problem
when we are trying to gather metrics and for an individual to have to then
add the work indicated in the next week (3/31-4/7 week) to the additional
work actually done in that week. Is there any way to correct this problem?
How about the task usage view as input for effort against tasks?
