I have read where the changes in Outlook 2007 for security reasons has
caused some 'outrage' among the bulk emailing circles (spammers?), because
they can't send html formatted messages in the same way as before, so yes it
may be. Perhaps the increased security features built-in to Vista does break
the functionality. I don't use Outlook or Vista, but I have been successful
in sending as a message in html format with Pub 2003 and 2007 using OE6 and
XP sp2. I also think that the ever increasing efforts at security over all
will continue to decrease the ability to send in html format. Furthermore
just because you can send as html, doesn't mean you should.
Besides all the "evil" reasons not to send html formatted messages, there
are some practical reasons why one should not send as a message in html
format. If you look at the Formatting in E-Mail Messages section on the Tips
and troubleshooting link, you will see that even if you keep the formatting
real simple there is a high probability that your message is not going to
look right, even if the recipient has html enabled. Personally, I think
there is a place for some html formatted email, especially if the user
sticks with the simple email formatted templates provided in Publisher, or
in other words KISS. At the same time, I would say that in most cases
Publisher users should send as an attached PDF. That is the only sure fire
way of the message looking right in all cases. Hyperlinks survive the
conversion to PDF in Pub 2007, so I don't really see any good reason not to
use PDF. But to each their own...
