Problems with Word 2007

I am using Microsoft Word 2007 with Vista on a relatively new computer
(bought nov07) and am having major problems with Word documents, whether or
not they are 2007 or older documents and whether or not they were created on
this computer. When I open a document in Word 2007 I cannot use the cursor to
move within the text or to move the text up and down and when I close the
file, Word crashes. I have tried starting Word without add-ins by running
Winword.exe /a and this works so an add-in must be to blame but when I try to
get rid of the add-ins by opening Word normally and going into word options,
I cannot move down to the add-ins because my cursor won't work. Is there a
solution to this Catch 22 problem please apart from starting Word by running
Winword.exe /a all the time?????

Run Regedit and delete the Word DataKey.

Word DataKey

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data

That doesnt work. I ran regedit and tried to delete the Word Datakey but
delete was grayed out. I went to help and it says:

You can delete keys and values from your registry. However, you cannot
delete a predefined key (such as HKEY_CURRENT_USER) or change the name of a
predefined key.

Am I doing something wrong?

Sorry for previous reply was being stupid, please ignore, but when I get down
to version number there is a 10.0 and a 12.0. How do I know which one to go
into to delete the data key?

Run Regedit as Administrator. (Make sure that all Office apps are closed:
look in Task Manager to ensure they are really closed as Word stays memory
resident when it has been used as the Outlook editor even if you close it. )

2007 = Word 12.

This didn't work for me. Nothing, so far, has! Any other suggestions?

Hi Terry,

I'm following this post and having similar issues. Here my dumb question. I
follow the path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version
number\Word\Data

I find find the follolwing four files which none of which says DataKey. The
names of these files are: (Default); Settings; SettingsWordMail and Toolbars.
Do I delete one or all of theses?

I'm confused regarding what I need to do or delete. Please clarify.

Thanks,
Frank
