Process yes. Application, NO

WhoMe

When I try to start Outlook 2003, I get an hour glass briefly, then nothing.
If I look in in Windows Task Manager, it shows as a running process, but NOT
as a running application.
If I click on the icon again, it AGAIN will start and show as a second
running process but not as an application. No interface appears on screen.
Sometimes, a couple of minutes later, the main app window opens, but I
generally then get a "not-responding" in the title bar.

I've tried running a repair installation.

I'm running WIN XP Pro with 1G RAM

does it ever start, if you wait a long time?
if using word as the editor, does word show in the list? if you open word,
do you get a prompt to load the normal.dot?

Have you tried killing all outlook.exe in task manager and then reopen
Outlook>?

Yes, if I wait long enough, it starts. And task manager reports cpu at less
the 10% so I don't think it's out of system resources.

I'm not using Word as editor and it doesn't show in the running processes.

Thanks for exploring this with me.

Yes...I've killed it in task manager and launched again. Same result.

it's waiting for something - but if you aren't using word as the editor, I
don't know what. if it doesn't close properly, the pst needed checked for
consistency, but it tells you it's checking it and that does take some
resources.
