Processing read receipts for tracking

When I send out an email requesting a read receipt, the receipts arrive in my
inbox and require that I manualy open each one to process it. Under Tools,
Email Options, Tracking the box is checked to process read receipts on
arrival, but this does not happen. I am using Outlook 2003 on an exchange
server. Our IS help desk tells me that the only way to process receipts is
to manually open them. Sometimes I receive 50-60 read receipts in a day. It
is very annoying, and seems very unnecessary, that I should need to open and
close each one manually for it to be entered in tracking and deleted from my
Inbox.
