Producing Reports

Hi

I need to product a report in Project 2000 that is task based and not time
based. I have a project that we define by phases, there can be anything from
2 to 50 tasks within a phase. I would like the report to be similar to the
budget report but that summarises each phase within the project. Am I right
in presuming that I will somehow have to create a table first? Can anyone
give me a pointer as to where to start?

Thanks

Jane,
You don't necessarily have to create a table unless you want different
fields displayed in the report. For example the Budget report focuses on
the most prevalent Cost fields. If you want different fields, go to
View/Table/More Tables. In the More Tables selection window that appears
hit "new". Give your custom table whatever name you want and create the
table by identifying the Project fields you want to appear in columns of
the view's table.

Now back to your question. My suggestion is to use a spare number field
(e.g. Number1) or spare flag fields to mark the tasks that belong to
each phase. A Number field might be more appropriate since you can use
"1", "2", etc. whereas with Flag fields, you need to remember which Flag
goes with which phase. Don't forget to include the relevant Summary
lines. Now create a custom filter (Project/Filtered For/More Filters)
that selects the phase identifier field (i.e. Number or Flag). You can
even make the filter interactive so that it will ask you for the
identifier value - simply put something like the following in the filter
value column: "Enter Phase"?

Now that your custom Table is set up and your "phase identifier" filter
is set up, all you need to do is to customize the Budget Report by
selecting your Table and Filter.

This is one way to get there, there are others. Hope this helps.
