cannot locate office 2000 professional. how can i get my
code or can i use a generic code to install office?

If it's a store-retail (boxed) copy you can contact MS (800) 360-7561 [or
http://microsoft.com/worldwide]

If it's an OEM copy, contact the company that preinstalled it on the
computer. The OEM
supplier is responsible for supporting the copies they install.
