sony vaio laptop. Ive tried rebooting but i still cant find it. Is there
anyway I can download it for FREE as I have the authentication key code
sticker under my laptop. Surely this should be easy. No way am i paying for
it as ive paid 2 grand and office came with it.

The product key you found under the laptop is probably for
Windows XP. The only legitimate free download of Office 2003 is
a trial version. If Office 2003 came preinstalled on your
laptop, then it was probably a trial version, not a full version.
When the trial period ends, you need to purchase a full version
if you wish to continue to use the software.

thanks for the very quick response. Yes it was a trial version i think, how
do I upgrade it or purchase a full version. How much are they? Is it also
possible to download a full version of word 2002 as id settle for this.

See
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/howtobuy/compare.mspx
for a list of suggested retail prices for full and upgrade
versions of the various Office 2003 editions. You can purchase a
copy of Office 2003 at your favorite local or online retailer.
Some trial versions can be converted online to a perpetual
version as described in
http://www.microsoft.com/office/trial/convert.mspx . But I
generally recommend uninstalling the trial, purchasing the Office
2003 edition of your choice, and installing from the CD you get
when you purchase the product. Installing from your own CD can
make it less troublesome to apply service packs and other updates
in the future, and you can usually purchase the product yourself
for a few dollars less than the online conversion price.

If you would be happy with Word 2002, then the least expensive
way to buy that is usually as part of Works Suite 2002 or later,
which is often available for less than $100 (be sure to get
Microsoft Works Suite and not ordinary Microsoft Works). Word
2002 is also available as a standalone program at some online
retailers.

I'm going to latch onto this thread instead of creating a new one. Hopefully
someone will see it.
My computer also came with Office installed on it in a trial form, and I was
told to download a 'perpetual product key'. The only problem is the site
tells me to click a download botton in an office program but my office
program won't let me click anything. Is there somewhere I can download a
perpetual product key on the website without haveg to click an in-product
link. Or am I going to have to download the intire office program?

What is a botton? See
http://www.microsoft.com/office/trial/convert.mspx for
instructions on how to convert online to a perpetual license.
But my advice would be to uninstall the trial version, purchase a
full version of Office 2003 from your favorite retailer, and
install the full version using the CD and product key that comes
in the retail box.

I wasted my money buying Microsoft licensed software - twice their own
product keys were not recognized by their own company, and for free technical
support I need to provide a valid product key. They want you to enter a
credit card number for support, but no way in hell would I give them another
dime.

At least a friend of mine told me how to solve the problem - free software
from Hong Kong, or buy a Mac...not the answer I was hoping for, but at least
it works...

If the key didn't work, then it was probably a pirate copy.

If MS did not accept the product key when you needed support, you probably
had an OEM version of Office which the supplier and not MS supports.

So what was your problem, what version of Word and OS?
