Product Key Doesn't Work.

I bought my computer at best buy. Since they didn't have any more of the
displayed laptop I wanted in stock I had to purchase the display itself.
Consequently, the laptop came without a box and all the other information
that comes along with computers. On the bottom of my laptop there is a key
that I thought was for Microsoft office, but apparently it's for something
else - I tried numerous times entering it in. I suspect this one if for the
OS... In that case, how do I retrieve the key? Am I just out of luck or do I
have to go and talk to Best Buy? Is there a way to contact microsoft to get
the key?

By the by, the laptop did advertise the full version of Microsoft Office so
I know the laptop should have gotten it...

Contact Best Buy and ask them to supply you a key for the Office Trial that is
installed

Hope you got a nice discounted price for the floor model.

The key label that is on the bottom of the computer is, as it plainly says,
for the version of Windows (the operating system, Vista or XP) that is
installed on the system. Protect that key in case you ever have to
reinstall the operating system.

As for the trial version of Office you have on the computer, if it isn't
working and hasn't been activated you will need to contact either Best Buy
or the computer manufacturer for the activation key. Many of the display
models have already had the trial activated and if so then it can't be
reactivated after it expires. Trial will only run for 60 days even if
activated. For Office you should really purchase a retail version from a
supplier instead of paying for the activation of the trial on the computer.
Many here recommend Office supplied by Amazon.com and it has historically
been the cheapest place to purchase full retail versions of Office.

Another thing you need to do is go to the manufacturer's web site and
download a operating manual for your computer. When you do that read about
how to create a set of recovery disks for your computer. When the computer
fail, and they all do some time, you will need the recovery disks to rebuild
the computer to "as shipped" from the factory. When you get the disks made,
I would recommend that you do rebuild to factory shipped status. You don't
know what may have been put on the computer by people playing at Best Buy.
The manual you download will tell you how to do all of this.
