Product Key is accepted on installation but rejected on first use

I am installing Office Professional Edition 2003 on a Sony Vaio notebook.
The Product Key is accepted upon installation but when prompted to re-enter
it on first use, I get an error message that Key is not valid. I never
experienced this problem (or the second prompt either) when installing on my
desktop.

If your notebook came with a trial version of Office 2003
preinstalled on the hard drive by the computer manufacturer, then
you should have uninstalled the trial version before installing
your full version. At this point, uninstall the full version,
uninstall the trial version, and reinstall the full version. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836178 "You receive an
'invalid product key' error message when you start an Office 2003
program after you install Office Professional Edition 2003" for
more information.

I thought there might be something to the pre-installed trial version but it
hadn't occurred to me to uninstall it. Thank you very much. I'm going to
uninstall everything and try again.
