Product key is incorrect

I had a laptop for xmas and just tried to do work on word using Home and
Student 2007 which was already installed on the laptop, I used the product
key on the bottom of the laptop (proof of authenticity certificate sticker)
and it still says its invalid.
I've checked the code loads and I have it right

The product key on the bottom of the laptop is for the Windows operating
system, not office.

It's likely that the laptop came installed with a trial version of office
which either has expired, or not been activated. Check the documentation
that came with your computer.
