Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I recently purchased Office 2008 for home use from microsoft. When I run the installer, the product key is requested right away. I enter the key that was provided with the disk. I get a message that it is an invalid product key. The installation halts. I currently have office 2004 for home use installed. I tried unistalling 2004, and removing the existing product keys per the other posts pertaining to similar issues. Same result. ended up re-installing 2004. Any suggestions?

First of all - no insult intended - but make sure you're entering the
correct characters. Sometimes zeroes look like the letter O or the digit 1
looks like the letter l or vice-versa. If you're absolutely certain that it
isn't a misinterpretation issue contact MS Customer Support - and make sure
you have all info at hand when you do.

Thanks for your help. I contacted support via phone. They checked the validity of the Disc, and the validity of the product key. Both are valid. However, it still will not install, and they say they cannot provide any recourse. I am told I need to go back to the site that I purchased it from (a Microsoft site), and try and get assistance there. Have you ever heard of such a thing from Microsoft Support? I am trying to do this from home, where my computer is, but the purchase site info is at work as it was part of a home use program purchase!

I would look again at the CD key. I suspect that you have entered the wrong
key as Bob described.

Thanks, I have several times as I have tried to install several times, as well as spend quite a bit of time unistalling and installing office 2004. As Bob and you had indicated, the very first thing that I suspected was fat fingering or misinterpreting the key itself. While it is still possible that there is something about the key that I have wrong, I would like to point out that I verbally read the key to support staff and they indicated that it was good. Also, there are no 1's or 0's in it. I was also told to leave the caps lock off and not enter any "-". I obviously do not seem to have this problem with Office 2004, as I had to re-enter the key to reinstall it. I do appreciate your efforts at assistance.

I went back to the purchase program site to see if I could get assistance there and this is what I found:

How do I get technical support on the products I order?

You can find a tremendous amount of support information for Microsoft® products available at <http://support.microsoft.com/> .
What if I need help with installing my product?

Setup and installation support is provided for software purchased through the Employee Purchase Program. Please refer to the support documentation included with your product for more information.

Thanks again for your help. I think I am done with this one.

You said you purchased this through an employee purchase program. Were
you actually provided an official Microsoft Office disk or were you
given a burned copy?
