Product key not working

when i'm prompted to enter the 25-charac. product key, it gets rejected and
i'm told it's invalid. what do i do? plz help. thanks in advance!

Product key for what, Office?, obtained from where?
And if a new PC did you uninstall the Trial version of Office, together with
Activation Assistant, reboot, prior to installing your paid for version?
