Product Key Problem

I had downloaded my roomates Microsoft Office with her permission, and
realized that it's illegal when a message would pop up saying that both
of us were not allowed to be on it at the same time. So, I bought my
own Student Teacher Edition. I next deleted the previous one, and
downloaded the new one. However, I was never able to put the new
product key in the system so it still thinks that I am under my
roomates. How am I able to fix this problem. I must have reinstalled
it three times now and it just won't work.

Thank you,
Whitney Brown

Ok, I have followed those instructions but it still won't let me type
in a new product key...it's still giving me the same product id and
won't let me edit it. Maybe I am not understanding the directions. I
first went to applications and deleted the existing office mac. Then I
did the find and deleted those files then I did a repair permissions
afterward. Finally I tried installing it again. Did I do this right?
Because if so, then what do I do now? Thank you

No, you didn't follow the directions. This is an alternative to
uninstalling.

However, if you have been reinstalling by trashing the office folder in
applications, I strongly suggest that you run the Office Remove tool, as
heaven only knows what the program consists of now. See here for how and
best practice on that:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/RemoveReinstall.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Then reinstall. That should clear your problem--if it doesn't, try the
webpage directions again, deleting only those files suggested (read
carefully).

By the way--to download means to get data from the web. Putting a program
on your computer is called "installing." You did not download Office, you
installed it.
